After removal of the needle, the threads remain in the tissue, and the ends of the threads protruding above the skin allow the tissue to be tightened by gentle traction. The threads have bidirectional barbs on their surface, which anchor into the subcutaneous tissue and thus enable lifting. Over the following months, the thread gradually dissolves, and new connective tissue forms in the area, which strengthens the tissue and progressively further improves the result.

Method of performance:

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. At the patient’s request, it can also be carried out under short general anesthesia. The duration of the procedure depends on the number of threads used and averages 30–45 minutes.

Indications:

Age-related changes, gravitational changes (loose skin, loss of elasticity). The procedure is indicated when satisfactory aesthetic improvement can be achieved by gently lifting the facial skin and when sufficiently firm subcutaneous tissue is present.
It is particularly suitable for individuals who:

  • Cannot undergo a conventional surgical procedure with prolonged recovery due to professional or social reasons.
  • Are afraid of a radical procedure and general anesthesia.
  • Wish to enhance the results of a conventional surgical procedure.

What can be influenced by the procedure?

Drooping eyebrows, sagging cheeks, and loose skin of the neck. The procedure can be combined with minor surgical treatments such as submental fat removal or correction of nasolabial folds.

Postoperative care:

A bandage is worn for at least 48 hours, followed by adjustment of the lift and trimming of the thread ends. Cold compresses are recommended, and for approximately one additional week it is advised to reduce tension for several hours a day using an elastic support band (headband).

Risks of the procedure:

In the hands of an experienced surgeon, the risks associated with the procedure are minimal and very rare. These may include minor bruising (hematomas), temporary mild asymmetries that can be improved with massage, or a sensation of thread tension in the subcutaneous tissue. If general anesthesia is requested, the risks associated with anesthesia must also be considered.
Since the threads used are absorbable, any changes will gradually resolve over time. All of these rare complications can be addressed during a follow-up visit with the physician.

Duration of the effect:

The effect develops gradually and, according to the thread manufacturer, can last up to 5 years; however, it typically lasts 2–4 years.

Conclusion:

There is no universal method of aesthetic improvement that is suitable for everyone. A plastic surgeon has a wide range of procedures available to meet a patient’s expectations and, together with the patient, can select the most appropriate option in terms of results, invasiveness, and duration of effect. APTOS Happy Lift is one of the most modern techniques, but it has its limitations and cannot be used in all cases. A pre-procedure consultation is essential.
