Another reason may be medical complications. This includes so-called phimosis, which is a narrowing of the foreskin that cannot be pulled back over the glans penis. The most common causes of this narrowing are recurrent inflammations or repeated minor injuries to the foreskin. In this case, only the narrowed part of the foreskin is removed, while most of the foreskin is preserved. The wound edges are closed with absorbable sutures.
The surgery is most often performed under general anesthesia. In this case, a preoperative internal medical examination is required. Hospitalization usually lasts until the following day. Surgery under local anesthesia can be performed on an outpatient basis without the need for hospitalization.
Home recovery lasts 1–2 weeks, depending on the type of occupation.
