Prof. Víšek graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague in 1953. He was then employed as a secondary physician and later as deputy chief physician in the Department of Internal Medicine of the District Hospital in Turnov. In 1960, he was selected on the basis of a competition for the position of professional assistant at the Ist Clinic of Internal Medicine, which is part of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine (at that time the Faculty of Medical Hygiene) of Charles University in Prague. In 1967, he defended his thesis and was named Assistant Professor. In 1972, after defending his doctoral thesis, he was named full professor in the field of pathology and therapy of internal diseases. From 1970 he was the Head of the Ind Clinic of Internal Medicine of the Faculty Hospital in Royal Vinohrady. He is employed in Lekářský dům, a.s. as an internist in pre-operational examination.
Prof. Víšek is the author or co-author of 230 professional and scientific publications, including seven monographs in the field of internal medicine, cardiology and intensive care. Some of his works have also been published abroad.
